I’m Julia and I was born and raised in San Francisco. I’ve always loved games, and I believe in paying it forward: just as I was taught the ins and outs of the game, I now love sharing its joy with others.
When I teach, I bring a mix of excitement and a relaxed, welcoming approach to help players of all levels discover what makes this classic game so special.
My team and I offer events and private lessons to help you host your next gathering.

Learn to Play in One Night!
BAM will host your 2.5-hour session in the location of your choice, designed to get your group playing confidently in just one evening — no prior experience needed.
We'll start with 30–45 minutes of guided instruction covering the purpose, rules, setup, and basic strategy of American Mahjong. Then, we'll jump right into gameplay. As you play, I’ll walk around to coach and support each table, helping everyone feel comfortable and ready to play on their own.
I provide everything needed for the lesson, so you don’t need to bring or prepare anything — just show up ready to learn and have fun!
